Titled "The Outsiders". Now I don't care whether or not you think you like country music. Because quite frankly, even though Eric Church is a country singer, his music is leaps and bounds better than the Luke Bryans of the genre. It has soul, meaning, purpose, and above all else, it's just damn good music. YouTube is severely lacking in posted songs, so figure out how to listen it to some other way. Here's the title track of the album.

Haven't heard the whole album yet but so far it's really good. More southern rock than country and, as such, lotsa country radio stations won't play it. Good thing I don't listen to the radio.

Is it me, or has he gotten really poppy?

It's you. Of all the country artists that have gotten poppy (I mean, Luke Bryan really used to make good, not poppy country music) , Eric is the last one I'd put on that list. His stuff has gotten more alt rock-ey maybe, but not poppy. If you listen to the full album too, there's no evidence of poppiness.

An addendum to my comment too. While the beats behind the lyrics might have trended towards "poppiness" (though I think they're nothing like the other garbage that plays on the radio), the lyrics behind it still has soul and meaning. Sure, Springsteen was poppy, but that song had way more depth than My Kind of Night.

I guess 'over-produced' may be a better word than 'poppy'. I liked the raw sound of Carolina and Sinners. Chief is a great album, but it's a completely different sound across the board. Haven't listened to Outsiders yet, but I didn't care for either of the singles. The title track is straight garbage, but if you're going to put those three guys together on a track, people will buy the shit out of it. Hometown just sounds like some shitty Gloriana or Lady Antebellum song. Hopefully the rest of the album is better.

This album sucks compared to his last 3, with the exception of a couple songs. Dark Side and Talledega aren't bad, but this album as a whole was a huge disappointment.
